August 1 @ 5:00 am - 7:00 am
Come and explore historic mysteries in Manitowish Waters. 2019 marks the fourth of several presentations detailing 19th and early 20th century mysteries on each lake connected to the Manitowish Chain. The 2019 presentation will reveal unsolved historic questions on Island, Clear and Big lakes. For instance, recently discovered early 20th century images and maps illustrate how the railroad networks around these lakes impacted both logging and tourism. Also, multiple turn of the century articles suggest that the area of Clear, Island, and Big lakes was a preferred destination for both hunting and fishing guides. Consequently, these lakes were also the homesteads of several of the first pioneers and summer residents. Learn about current historic research from this portion of the MW chain that ranges from Ojibwa ricing to moonshiner shootouts.
