Snowshoe Manitowish River Historic Trails

January 22, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm

$13 – $18

Saturday: 1 pm – 3:30 pm

Join local historian Jim Bokern of the Manitowish Waters Historical Society and a North Lakeland Discovery Center naturalist on a unique hike through history along the Manitowish River. We will explore an old logging ice road and 6 Pause Portage, an Ojibwa and voyager travel route. Exploring natural and geological features along the trails will add key insights regarding the Northwoods. This two-mile hike is mostly off trail, has uneven ground, and is moderately strenuous. We will hike or snowshoe, depending on conditions.

Space is limited, so please register early; $18 ($13 for members of the NLDC or MWHS). Register at the North Lakeland Discovery Center (www.discoverycenter.net). For more information, contact the NLDC (715-543-2085 or at [email protected]).

Participants will drive their vehicles from the NLDC to the trailhead to promote social distancing.
